Similar to the MM 33, the MD 4 is a manual micromnipulator, but possesses a second tool holder. The extra tool holder can independently travel in x- or y- direction, as well as swivel. It has two fine-adjustment screws.
The MM 33 and MD 4 are the right choice for tight environments which require maximum versatility within a small space. Stainless steel cross-loaded roller bearings are designed to offer low friction and smooth linear motion with minimum side play. The preloaded rollers are set at 90 degrees to the hardened steel guides ensuring constant contact and accuracy. This precise rack and pinion drive gives stable, drift free movement with minimal backlash. The controls are placed one above the other which makes for less hand movement and easier positioning. The scales for all axes are calibrated in 0.10 mm increments and the fine micrometer adjustment for the X-axis thrust is calibrated at 0.01 mm with estimates to 5 µm.

MM 33 with 45° tiltable X-axis, for left hand use, mounted on a rotating base (Sutter Instrument), to be ordered separately.
MM 33 with 90° tiltable fine movement (SPT)
The MM 33 and the MD 4 are available for both right hand or left hand use. For further flexibility the MM33 can be mounted on a rotating base (Sutter Instrument) and both can be mount on a tilting base (Märzhäuser).
The optional rotating base also has a stepwise tiltable X-axis. The rotation in the horizontal plane (approximately 120 degrees) has a positive stop, quick release mechanism for fast insertion and removal of pipettes. The second rotating axis allows the MM 33 to be tilted in the vertical plane from 0 to 70 degrees.
The optional tiltable X-axis allows the fine axis to be tilted stepwise up to 45 degrees. An optional vertical lock is also available for locking the position of the vertical axis. These options should be ordered at the time of purchase since the modifications are factory installed. For tilting the fine movement device of the MM 33 in a desired angle between 0 and 90 degrees a small tilting base (SPT) is also available.
To avoid a drift of the manipulator whilst working with a higher load, the MM 33 can be delivered with an additional brake for the Z-axis ( Z-axis stop ).
